Bladder dysfunction in MS happens when nerve signals to the bladder and urinary sphincter (the muscles surrounding the opening to the bladder) are blocked or delayed because of MS lesions in the brain and/or spinal cord.

Pelvic organ prolapse, a type of pelvic floor disorder, can affect many women. In fact, according to WebMD, about one-third of all women are affected by prolapse or similar conditions over their lifetime.

Common causes include: Pregnancy, labor, and childbirth (the most common causes), Obesity, Respiratory problems with a chronic, long-term cough, Constipation, Pelvic organ cancers, and surgical removal of the uterus (hysterectomy).

FOR PROSTATE CANCER
Did you know that prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cancer among American men following skin cancer?
With over 160,000 new cases reported each year, the American Cancer Society states, “About 1 man in 9 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.”
Medical News Today explains, “Prostate cancer affects the prostate gland [which is only present in males], the gland that produces some of the fluid in semen and plays a role in urine control in men.”

FOR SPINA BIFIDA
According to the Spina Bifida Association, Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. Spina Bifida happens when a baby is in the womb and the spinal column does not close all of the way.
Every day, about 8 babies born in the United States have Spina Bifida or a similar birth defect of the brain and spine.

According to the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center, the annual incidence of spinal cord injury (SCI) is approximately 54 cases per million population in the U.S. or approximately 17,000 new SCI cases each year.

FOR TRANSVERSE MYELITIS
Transverse myelitis (TM) is a rare inflammatory disease causing injury to the spinal cord with varying degrees of weakness, sensory alterations, and autonomic dysfunction (the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary activity, such as the heart, breathing, the digestive system, and reflexes).
According to the Transverse Myelitis Association, approximately 1400 new cases of TM occur each year in the US. Although this disease affects people of all ages, approximately 25% of cases are in children.
