Triumph Foundation Bridges Gap for SCI Support in Southern California - Cure Medical
triumph foundation header
People are universally unprepared at first to live with a life-changing injury or disorder.

Triumph Foundation in California was started to fill in the gaps of care for people who are struggling with a life adjustment due to SCI.

A 501(c) 3 organization, Triumph Foundation’s mission is to help children, adults, and Veterans with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) or disorders to triumph over their disability and to inspire them to keep moving forward with their lives by pushing themselves to get better every day.

They offer social and sports events, along with peer support group meetings, throughout California. Triumph Foundation is also proud to be a California chapter of the United Spinal Association, a national network of non-profits serving people with SCI/D.

Keep Moving Forward Grants

Triumph Foundation’s KMF Grant program helps people get necessary equipment, supplies and services. Check out some of their recent recipients:

Triumph Foundation  helped Donnie with a van conversion.DONNIE
Triumph Foundation  helped Donnie with a van conversion.  They met him when he first got injured in 2011 from a motorcycle accident in Santa Barbara. He broke his C6/7 vertebrae and was paralyzed instantly. Triumph met Donnie when he first got injured bringing him a Care Basket.

He has had many ups and downs after his injury, but has recently turned a page.  Donnie completed drivers training, regained his driver’s license, and the Keep Moving Forward Grant helped him get an adapted drivers seat and hand controls. He is now able to live more independently and wants to move back out on his own.

Triumph helped Kip purchase hand controls.KIP
Triumph helped Kip purchase hand controls. In March 2016 Kip went to the doctor for a minor surgery, but something went terribly wrong, waking up without the ability to move his legs. A blood clot traveled from the surgical site and into his spinal artery.

He is now a paraplegic and is going to outpatient physical therapy at Casa Colina and needed help with transportation. He applied for Triumph’s grant for hand controls to give him the freedom and independence to get himself to rehab and anywhere else he wants to go. This has taken a big burden off his family and greatly enhanced his life.

Triumph helped Micah pay his copay on his power wheelchair.MICAH
Triumph helped Micah pay his copay on his power wheelchair.  In July 2016 Micah fell backwards in a pool and broke his C4 cervical vertebrae becoming paralyzed instantly from the neck down.  They met Micah and his wife at Sharp Rehabilitation in San Diego delivering him a Care Basket.

After he was discharged from the hospital, he was given a loaner wheelchair that did not support his back properly and did not tilt or recline to get him into a pressure relief position.

He has severe financial hardship because he is no longer able to work, and has two daughters to care for. He could not afford his co-pay to get a power wheelchair. Their support helped him with the necessary funds to get him rolling in a proper wheelchair.

Triumph's support helped Hassan with physical therapy at SCI FIT.HASSAN
Their support helped Hassan with physical therapy at SCI FIT. In April 2015 Hassan was injured after he dove into the ocean hitting a sandbar suffering a C3/4 Spinal Cord Injury. He rehabbed at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and then moved back home unable to move any part of his body.

He began outpatient rehab and started to get significant return of function. He has progressed so far that he is now able to walk with a walker but due to limited health insurance coverage his therapy sessions were stopped short.

Triumph’s support gave him a grant to go to SCI-FIT to continue working on his progress to walk independently and support his wife and two daughters.

Check out Hassan’s progress video.
